HAVERHILL – Theodoros Bachtsevanos, 86, of Haverhill, MA died Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, surrounded by his loved ones.
Theodoros was born in Neapoli, Kozani, Greece. He was the son of the late Sevastos and Pagona Bachtsevanos. He was raised and lived as a tobacco farmer in Neapoli, Greece for the early parts of his adulthood. As a teenager he enlisted in the Greek Military, serving during the Greek Civil War from1946 to 1949. After the war, in 1951, he married the love of his life, Kyratsoula (Lambrou) Bachtsevanos.
In 1967, he immigrated to Manchester, NH with his wife, daughter, Toula, and son, Savas. Theodoros then worked as a shoemaker at Gutman Kesselen Shoe Factory in Manchester, NH. He then worked at several other shoe factories throughout the New England area.
Theodoros then moved with his family to Haverhill in 1981, where he lived the rest of his life.
Theodoros enjoyed gardening, listening and dancing to rebetika and zebekika (traditional Greek music), and summer trips to Greece with his family.
He will be missed by his friends and family. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law Toula and Vasilios Papaefthemiou, son and daughter-in-law Savas and Cathy Bachtsevanos; grandchildren, Chrysanthe and her husband Todd Andersen, Andrew Papaefthemiou and his fiance Florencia Kohan, Theodore, Alexander, and Christopher. He will be missed, most of all, by his wife Kyratsoula.
