Theodore R. “Ted” Luckenbill, 72, of Crockett, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at a Dallas hospital after a brief illness.
Ted was born July 27, 1939, in Elkhart, to the late A. Rex and Gladys M. (Schenk) Luckenbill.
He is survived by his present wife, Louise Fowler, and her family; sons Michael R. Luckenbill of Sugarland and Heath C. Luckenbill of Philadelphia; granddaughters Alexis, Victoria and Aubrie; and his sister, Janice Luckenbill of Elkhart.
Ted played professional basketball for three seasons with the Philadelphia Warriors and then the Golden State Warriors. He was sidelined at the age of 23 with testicular cancer, from which he was completely cured. He then played a couple seasons with the minor league Wilkes-Barre Barons.
He returned to Elkhart and began work in the mobile home industry with Richardson’s Mobile Homes. He then held management positions in Texas with a variety of companies, as well as the van conversion industry, until he retired seven years ago. After he retired, he helped many as a handyman and then had fun working as a receptionist for a legal firm.
Ted was a graduate of Elkhart High School and attended the University of Houston. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed being with his wife and her children and grandchildren. He was fun-loving, outgoing and always the life of the party.
