P. Theodore “Teddy Jay” Jinetopulos, 87, of East Haven passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2012 in USVAMedicalCenter, West Haven following a period of declining health. Born in New Haven on Sept. 22, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Despina Balides Jinetopulos. Ted faithfully and honorably served his country as a Merchant Seaman during World War II in the Atlantic Theater. After the war, he worked in the candy industry, first in his business, the West Rock Confectionary at Edgewood and West Rock Avenues in Westville and subsequently for Peter Paul Candy Co as a salesman and regional manager. During a considerable portion of his adult years, Ted was involved with the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks where he was a life member, a former trustee and was selected as Elk of the Year by Branford Lodge No. 1939. During those active years as an Elk, he was committed to variety of philanthropic activities and causes, particularly the Newington Children’s Hospital, now known as the Connecticut Children’s MedicalCenter. He is survived by his daughter, Helen (George) Pertesis of Branford; step granddaughter, Leah Pertesis-Morgillo (Angelo) of New Haven; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friends, the Calandro and Treloar families. He was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Demetriou and Irene Goldman; and a brother, Matthew Jinetopulos. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the West Haven VA Medical Center for the fine care Ted received over the years.
