Deacon Theodore E. Bumpus, Jr. was born November 20, 1953 to the late Theodore Edward Bumpus, Sr. and the late Mary Louise Orr Bumpus. He attended and graduated from Austin High School in 1974. Theodore, or “Man” as most people called him, was always a hard worker. He worked for Prestolite for 17 years and afterwards pursued a job as a cab driver. He was well known by those who patronized the cab business and was affectionately referred to as “Bumpus” by his clients. He was a people person who never met a stranger. He was employed by Walmart in Athens, AL for the past 15 years.
“Man” adored all his children and was always ready to share the details of their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. He really cherished all of his grandchildren especially “Paw Paw’s girls”: Ja’Nya, Mariah, Angel, Chloe, Aaliyah, Kaliyah, Zayla and Sanaa’.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Brenda Bumpus, the mother of his children. Children: Katrina White, Kimberly Smith, Fabian Bumpus, Cory Bumpus, Bridget Bumpus (Quincy), Pastor Timothy Bumpus (LaKeena).
Siblings: Barbara Crayton, Dr. Chinetha Baker (Charles), Shirley Gaiter (Willis), Linda Hughes, Charles Bumpus, Venesha Bumpus, Rose Gilbert (Mark), Diane Williams (Jimmy); one beloved aunt, Charlsie Orr. 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
