SUNRISE Theodora, known as “Ma” by her children and relatives, also nicknamed, “Pinky” by some and “Dolly” by others, was born on March 16, 1924 in St. Phillip Barbados. She was the youngest of three children born to Frederick Greenidge and Eunice Jones.

PERSONALITY Theodora Viola was a quiet, easy going, hardworking woman. She hardly complained when life hit her hard as in Prov. 24:16; “For a righteous man fall seven times but rises again”. She was honest and spoke her mind.

STORYTELLER Theodora was a true storyteller. While most people read stories to their children, she would tell the story with such dramatics, that by the conclusion you felt that you were part of the story.

EDUCATOR Theodora Viola received her education at St. Phillip’s Girls School in Barbados. She excelled in spelling and arithmetic. She strongly encouraged her children to get a good education. If there was a word that was difficult to pronounce, she would say “break it down in syllables”

MUSIC LOVER Theodora had a special love for music. She had a beautiful voice and would sing each chance she got. Hymns like, “I Come To The Garden Alone” and “There Is No Secret What God Can Do” were two of her favorites. Folk songs like “Lil Liza Jane” made her smile.

MOTHER’S LOVE Theodora was a mother to eight children. She sacrificed and ensured that they were well fed and taken care of. She created great meals with meager supplies.

WORK Theodora was a homemaker in Barbados. In the United States, she worked briefly as a home attendant. However, she derived great satisfaction from babysitting including her grandchildren.

SKILLS Theodora was a skilled seamstress. As a single parent, she used her creativity to provide clothing for her children including making their school uniforms. In her early years she repaired broken umbrellas which provided a means of income. In the USA she learned crochet and knitting, making beautiful blankets, sweaters among other things. If a baby was expected in the family, rest assured that a blanket was in the works.

SUNSET On May 31, 2014, Theodora Viola Jones was called to her eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Harvey and Verna Jones and her son, Frederick Jones. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Ormond Jones, Rosalind Phillips, Sandra, Algay, Dolridge Jones, Vena Jean Holowinskyj and Ismay Jones; grandchildren, Shelly Jones, Hassan Phillips, Linden and Randy Jones, Jason Jordan (Ph.D), Steve, Tiffany, Antonio, Darrian, Dara and Jelani Jones; great- grandchildren, Zodie, Tanisha, Zania, Sarah, Zachary, Janaya, Cameron and Kennedi; sons-in-law, James Phillips and Eugene Holowinskyj; daughters-in-law, Diane and Gail Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins both in Barbados, England and New York.
