Thelma Wolcott, a long time resident of Nampa passed away on December 6, 2015.
Thelma was born in Boise, the younger daughter of Marvin and Goldie Stewart. She spent her early years living on Pierce Park Lane. Along with her sister and many cousins she enjoyed all types of outdoor activities. She attended grades 1-8 at Pierce Park School, a 4-room school. At Boise High School she was active in girl’s athletics (GAA) and played flute in the band. She graduated in 1944, and then attended Boise Junior College for 2 years. In 1948 she graduated with a degree in Physical Education from the College of Idaho, where she met the love of her life, Jim Wolcott. While Jim finished his undergraduate work at C of I, she taught Physical Education at Meridian High School. Jim then went to Stanford University for his MBA and Thelma worked in the Stanford Book Store.
Following Jim’s graduation they returned to Boise where Jim worked for Morrison-Knudsen. Their two children, Greg and Tammy, were born in Boise. Jim’s work in the following years took them to Fresno, California, back to Boise, then to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Cleveland, Ohio. In 1965 they moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, when Jim took a job with Husky Oil. They also lived in Cody, Wyoming and Denver, Colorado, before returning to Idaho in 1992. They built a house in Nampa, close to Lake Lowell, where they lived for the next 33 years.
Thelma was involved with music all of her life – singing and playing the piano and flute.
In the various places they lived, Thelma joined Sweet Adelines, women’s barbershop singing groups. This became a very important part of her life, blending the joy of singing and marvelous life long friends. She was a charter member of the Cody Country Chorus and a member of the Castle Rock, Colorado chorus. From 1983 to 2012 she was a member of the Treasure Valley Sweet Adelines and during that time especially enjoyed singing with a quartet that included very good friends Mervon Badesheim and Diane Hollifield.
She loved reading, cross-stitch, sewing and knitting.
Thelma’s last few months were spent at MorningStar Senior Living of Boise. The family would especially like to thank all of the staff for the exceptional care and love they provided to Mom during her time there.
Thelma is survived by Jim, her husband of 66 years, her son Greg and daughter Tammy (Bruce Roberts), 4 grandchildren: Kylie (Marc Greidanus), Brad Wolcott (Raquel), Ian and Erin Roberts, and 4 great grandchildren: Ty, Zeke and Levi Greidanus, and Maria Wolcott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
