On November 24, 2010 at 10:48 a.m. Thelma R. Stine, of Linden, entered heaven peacefully while at home surrounded by her family. She led a long and energetic life. Born, Thelma Ruth Stark on November 13, 1927, to John and Katherine (Laob) Stark, she lived in and graduated from South Williamsport. In 1948 she met the love of her life, Owen E. Stine. They married in 1948 and had four children, Larry, Rosanna, Steven, and John. Thelma’s greatest love was her family. She thoroughly enjoyed giving her children everything she could. The family spent every summer camping and swimming on the Susquehanna River.
There was always something lively occurring at her home and everyone was always welcome, including river goers who stopped by and asked if they could have a turn on the infamous water slide. Thelma zipped up and down the river on her wave runner until she was 80 years old. She rode it nearly every day during the summer. Thelma had an incredible love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was always eager for them to visit. She enjoyed swimming in the river with them and encouraging them to jump from the high dive. Her family will hold many happy memories of her enormous love and unending energy.
Thelma worked at Weldons for many years and retired from the Genetti Hotel at the age of 78. She loved working and meeting people. She, until recently, still visited her friends who had trouble getting out and she delivered their favorite foods to them. She was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church.
Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Owen, in 1991, and a brother Kenneth Stark.
She is survived by her four children; Larry Stine (Nancy Harvey) of Williamsport, Rosanna Stine (Rich Hollingsworth) of Linden, Steven Stine (Carol) of Linden, and John Stine (Dee) of Montoursville, 11 grandchildren; Joella, Jodi, April, Diane, Larry Jr., Jim, Michelle, Rick, Josh, Amber, and Jeremy, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great
grandson.
