Thelma Marie (Babcock) Nicholas, 86 of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born on January 23, 1928 to August and Bertha Alice (Burgett) Babcock inTable Rock, Nebraska.
Early on the family moved to Dawson vicinity. Thelma attended kindergarten in Dawson. They moved 2 miles north and 1 mile east of Pawnee City and Thelma attended school through the 8th grade in District 16. Her first year of High School she stayed in town during the week. The next year Thelma and her sister Velma walked to the corner and hitched the two mile ride with Croms. Her junior/senior year she stayed in town during the week with sister Lorraine. She graduated high school in 1946 and on June 1, 1946 she married Lewis L. Nicholas who had completed his naval duties. She was a loving and supporting mother to Wanda Rae, Norma Jean and John Benjamin.
Lewis and Thelma spent the first 5 years of married life 5 miles west of Summerfield, Kansas. They moved to Pawnee County and farmed west of Pawnee City until 1979, while also working at the Beatrice State Development Center. They moved to Pawnee City in 1979.
