Thelma Marie Griffith was born August 25, 1915, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde M. and Elva M. (McPherson) Watt.

On September 4, 1947, Thelma married John Raymond Griffith in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple spent the majority of their lives in Adair, Iowa and while residing there, Thelma owned and operated a beauty shop for 25 years. As a beautician, Thelma loved her work and her clients at the beauty shop. She was also known as the “Best Cook” in the area and also had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Thelma enjoyed horseback riding in her younger days, but her main devotion was in being a very good Mother and Grandmother.
