The Reverend Henry A. Baumann, 92, of 468 King’s Way Road, Martinsville, VA, died Monday, February 21, 2011 at King’s Grant Health Care. Born on November 15, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Emil Baumann and Nelle Jones Baumann. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Baumann. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Hicklin Baumann. The Reverend Baumann received a Bachelor’s Degree from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana and his Masters of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. He attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and taught in the Department of Religion at Hanover College and later at Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina. He became the first installed pastor of the newly chartered Fairfax Presbyterian Church where he remained the senior pastor for 33 years. Upon retirement he was named Pastor Emeritus. After retirement he served as interim pastor for four Washington, D.C. area churches – Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, Little Falls Presbyterian Church, Old Presbyterian Meeting House and Clifton Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife of the residence, The Reverend Baumann is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Ritter and husband Joel, Lisa Dugan, Mary Early and husband Tom and Becky Petry and husband Chris; a brother and sister-in-law, David Baumann and wife Sarah Jane; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
