The Reverend Evan Haener, 53, died on Wednesday February 10, 2016.
Evan was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Inglewood, CA. He has lived in Harrison for the last 25 years.
Always interested in church music and hymns, he began his college studies as a music major before switching to religious studies. He studied at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. For one semester, he studied at Westfield House an affiliate of Cambridge University in England.
Ordained on April 7, 1991 Evan’s first call was to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Harrison. This April would have marked his 25th anniversary.
Rev. Haener earned his M.S. in Sacred Theology from Drew University in Madison, NJ in 1997; a degree he was extremely proud of and later served as an adjunct professor at Pace University in New York City.
Pastor Haener is survived by wife Christine (Wesser) and one son Ian Haener.
He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Marjorie (Lester) Haener and his brothers Eric and Paul Haener.
Evan will be deeply missed for his sense of humor, eclectic love of music and theological brilliance.
