Terry Lyn McDonald, 68, of O’Fallon, IL passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Terry was born July 18, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Lt. Col. (USAF ret.) Paul and Dolores McDonald, both of whom preceded him in death. Raised in an Air Force family, Terry lived in many United States cities and in Germany (1947-1950) and Japan (1956-1959). As a teen, Terry became an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
In high school, he wrestled and played baseball. At Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving as a sergeant with the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam. After completing his tour in 1970, Terry started Law School at the University of Illinois and graduated in 1973 with a Juris Doctor.
He then was hired by (future Chicago, IL mayor) Richard M. Daley, who was state’s attorney to Cook county. After more than 30 years as assistant state’s attorney, Terry retired. On June 10, 1983, in Chicago, Terry married Linda Rosencranz whom he had met while both were law students. After receiving their law degrees, they had moved to Chicago to work as attorneys. They enjoyed the Chicago life of concerts, shows, and exhibits while spending many vacations travelling the US, Europe, and Mexico. Terry enjoyed many hobbies that included reading (science fiction and history) and was an avid sports car enthusiast.
He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Linda Rosencranz of Chicago, IL; one brother, Stan (Kristin) McDonald of Longmont, CO; two nieces, Carrie Koss and Courtney McDonald; two nephews, Michael (Janeen) McDonald and Kyle McDonald; two grand-nephews, Mason and Miles; and one grand-niece, Londyn, all of CO. He will also be missed by many cousins and friends.
