Ted D. Briggs
HOOPER – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was called home to our loving Heavenly Father on January 23, 2014. We lost him to complications from surgery. He was born February 2, 1932, to Moroni Laben and Arta Iris Madsen Briggs. He lived in Ephraim, Utah, and attended Snow College.
He joined the Navy and received training in electronics and ham radio communication. When he returned home, he was able to start a career as a civil servant at Hill Air Force Base. He retired from there in 1988. While working there, he worked on the guidance systems for the minuteman missiles. He went on TDY to South Dakota and Alaska to work in the missile silos. He was also employed by the Ogden Standard Examiner delivering newspapers. He worked for them 40 plus years delivering to Hooper residents and later to newsstands. He still kept busy fixing the coin mechanisms from the machines.
On June 29, 1953, he married Barbara Ann Zinie in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were married 51 years. She returned home on October 9, 2004. They were the proud parents of five children; Judy Ann Hoggan, Billings, MT., Shirley Capps, Shalimar, FL., Kathy Tormachy, Loveland, CO, Dale Allen Briggs, Sanford, FL., and Gary Lynn Briggs, Las Vegas, NV. On June 2, 2007, he married Jane Elizabeth Yeargan in Las Vegas, NV. She has three children; Lorraine Leola Gottardi, LA, John Arthur Dresser, CA, and Guy William Yeargan, WY. He was a loving grandpa to nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and enjoyed serving in church and community events. He spent many hours providing music and announcing for 4-H horse shows, rodeos, the 4th of July and Labor Day activities at the Hooper Park, with his homemade sound system. He served as scout master and participated in youth road shows. The last few years he helped with baptisms making sure the font was always ready. When he retired he learned to do macramAC., tat, and counted cross stitch. He entered a large picture done in counted cross stitch in the Utah State fair and received Reserve Grand Champion. He also loved to cook. He was well known for his chocolate chip cookies, and homemade bread. Many family members and neighbors were the glad recipients of his baking.
Dad loved working in his yard, digging trenches, and keeping his lawn beautiful. He also loved to travel and visit family and friends. While visiting he had to be useful, and would help with many, many projects. He loved to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife, children, his sisters, Gwen Rowley, Maxine Ruoho, Mary Lou Magnusson, Lucille Sondrup, and one brother Gorden Briggs, and many nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Don Allen Briggs, and his brother, Robert Briggs.
