Detective Taras Kolosiej, age 59, died suddenly at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, New York on November 8, 2020.
Mr. Kolosiej was born in New York, New York and moved to Cuddebackville, New York several years ago.
Taras was a proud member of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and served the City of New York and its citizens for over 36 years. His first assignment after the Police Academy was in the 28 Precinct where he served in Uniformed Patrol for 8 years. PO Kolosiej transferred to the 30 Precinct and stayed the remainder of his career rising to the rank of Detective Specialist in 2016. He made over 3000 arrests in his career and was awarded several commendations for his work. Detective Kolosiej retired from his stellar career at the NYPD on August 31, 2020. He was contemplating his next chapter in his life.
Mr. Kolosiej was predeceased by his parents, Lydia and John, and a brother, John, and a sister Olga.
Detective Kolosiej is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Mayer. He has two sons: James and Russell, and three daughters: Jacqueline, Katherine, and Eleanor. Taras also is survived by his brothers: Michael, Eugene, and Peter, and one sister: Doris Garcia. He also had many nieces and nephews.
