Tanya (Lady bird/ Smiley face) Whorton was born in Indianapolis Indiana. January 13, 1962, to the late Harry Whorton, Jr. and Shirley Ann Fletcher.

Tanya was always an outgoing child, she knew what she wanted. She was very close to her aunt and uncle Henry and Alberta Jackson, who would be a great influence in her early childhood raising. She would go on to be educated in the Indianapolis Public School System, gaining her elementary education from Elder W. Diggs School #42. She would then have the privilege to attend Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet School, where she would become interested in the healthcare field, graduating the year of 1980 from Crispus Attucks High School. This would prove to be a great accomplishment. Tanya would then realize that she would be carrying a bundle of joy. This would produce her son Rodney. She would be led to a whole new world caring and raising Rodney, which would start her love for caring and taking control over the sick and shut-in.

The role which Tanya cherished greater than all, would soon be “Super Granny” emerging from the lives of her grandbabies, Katie, Daviyon, Anaiya, twins Camryn and Carmyn and Keavion.

Tanya would soon gain notoriety for her gifts of help.  Many of her works would be acquired by word of mouth, and the many things others had seen her endure and accomplish.

She had suddenly realized that there was this greater need in the community, for helping those who were less fortunate than she saw herself. Tanya would frequent Pantries and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Charities, as well as other outreach programs after hearing of total strangers and their needs. She was so dedicated that transportation would sometimes be by bicycle. She spent many years projecting her next venture, sharing with all that she knew that would benefit from the resources that just fell into her path.

Tanya would learn this March of 2022, that her health was compromised. She was diagnosed with that dreaded “C” word, compromising her lung and spreading throughout the body, as it is known to do, unless it’s caught in its earlier stages.

This “C” would soon wreak havoc on her health, and finally bring us to the ending of this amazing person’s Legacy! The trumpets rang at 3:00 a.m. on August 23, 2022, and she gained her wings. She will be remembered for her many terms of endearment to all she knew and loved. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Fletcher and nephew, Robert.

She leaves to cherish her beloved son, Rodney Garner (Keesha); her sisters, Angela Applewhite (David), Sonya Whorton, and Angel Paige (Brian); brothers, Michael Fletcher, Chris Whorton, and Corey Whorton; nieces, Antaneesha Fletcher, Neekieshia Brownie (Adrain), Tyisha Acklin (Jonas), Ariana, Camille, Brooke, Sydney, Sierra, Mariah, Chyla, Angellika, and Ashante; nephews, Kevin, Kode, Kaleb, Jaedyn, Antonio, Archie, Adrian, Cayden and Devon; she had a special love for Mom Jacqueline Moore, Allen Cousin and family, Ms. Sue, Kim Morris, and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, the Meridian Community, all that she loved dearly.
