Tanner John Snellgrove of Newnan passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017. Tanner was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA on August 28, 1996, to Chrissy Glenn and Rick Snellgrove. Upon entering this world Tanner immediately developed the trademark grin that would remain with him throughout his life. This grin provided depth to his personality and indicated enjoyment beyond compare. Of his many talents, one of his greatest was his ability to make friends with everyone who crossed his path. If he walked into a room of strangers he would leave that room with a pocketful of new friends. His 2nd love was nurtured and developed through his loving father. This love would provide a step toward his aspirations of obtaining a college degree, but before that, it proved many innings of enjoyment for his family and friends.
Over his years of baseball, his career lead him to the pitching mound where he developed a wicked changeup that would both baffle and retire many opposing batters and send the coaches into tizzies’. His travel ball would lead to a great high school career which led to a position with middle Georgia College and later to the mound for West Georgia Technical College. His love of baseball and his desire to succeed fueled the desire to succeed of his brother Jacob. Tanner’s next love was developed and nurtured by his uncle Chad. This love was of the great outdoors. Thru his uncle, he became a “Great” deer hunter. It was said of him that he was lucky by always being at the right spot! Tanner would say “you still have to take the shot.”
Tanner would bag many a deer and call up many turkeys over his career and the walls of our home reflect this today. Tanner also developed a great knack for finding every honey hole from all ends of Coweta county. He grew his love of fishing under the teaching of his grandmother “Nanny Goat” and granddaddy “Poppa Joe”. Whether with his brother, grandparents, or just by himself he became the “Great Angler”. No greater joy in the world was ever seen as beautiful as Tanner’s grin after landing a big catch! Tanner loved all things outdoor whether hunting with his brother and uncle, riding a 4-wheeler or going on a dove shoot. Over the last year of his life, we had been blessed to witness a new love that fueled a determination to be successful as he saw a great future unfolding to a career in the outdoors he loved so much.
Tanner knew to get there would require effort. Through his determination and the coaching skills of his mother, he and Chrissy would forge this stream together. These efforts resulted in his latest success as he had made the dean’s list. Tanner’s latest love for the last couple of years had brought great newfound joy to not only him but to me as his stepfather. This was something they could enjoy together forever. Tanner had taken a keen interest in Golf. His interest in the game was not just fueled by the thrill of the long ball but a desire for the greater benefits that the game offers. The real understanding of love, truth and honor. The ability to transform from novice to a true gentleman. The understanding that a handshake on 18 was much more than just a handshake. Our golf days were the greatest days for me as I watched my son grow into manhood. Tanner will be remembered as a loving son, supportive brother and an avid sportsman.
Tanner is preceded in death by his grandparents Sam and Mary Cali. He is survived by his parents, Rick Snellgrove, Chrissy and Booney Glenn and his brother Jacob “Pop” Snellgrove. He is also survived by grandparents, Joe and Juanita Snellgrove; aunts and uncles, Emily and Terry Page, Joseph Cali, Helen and Chad Coursey, Greg and Jamie Snellgrove; cousins, Cali & Maddi Page, Jessie & Gunner Coursey. Tanner will be missed by family & friends.
