On Thursday, March 9, 2023, Talmage Gregory Wilson, Jr. passed away at age 101. He was the first of four children born to Ellet and Talmage G. Wilson, Sr. in Keysville, VA. He received most of his elementary and his entire high school education as a day student at Bluestone Harmony Institute in Keysville, VA.
Talmage was called “T” by his family and friends. After graduating from high school, he left home to attend Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) at age 15. His education was interrupted by the draft. When WWII ended, he was discharged from the Army at the rank of sergeant and returned to Virginia State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
While in the Army, Talmage was assigned duties in the medical dispensary. This experience led to his interest in pharmacy and his decision to enroll in Howard University’s School of Pharmacy. After graduating, Talmage worked as a pharmacist for many years, both in partnership and as a drug store owner. His last employment as a pharmacist was with the D.C. government.
Talmage was an active supporter and contributing member of Howard’s Pharmacy Alumni organization. He was a charter member of the Century Club, where he served as treasurer for 50 years. He had many loyal friends with whom he and his wife Margaret travelled and who continued to include him after her death. He especially enjoyed fishing trips and spectator sports. He and Margaret were Redskins/Commanders season ticket holders for many, many years and enjoyed their Sunday outings together.
Talmage is survived by his sister, Hilda Branch, nieces Lisa McClendon, Vicki Wilson, Karen Archia, Anita Lowe, Charlotte Roy and Stephanie Gordon; nephews Veasey and Jeffrey Wilson, and Eric and Emerson Branch. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret and brothers Wendell and Hilton Wilson.
