Sylvester “Sal” J. Jaworski, 90, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on August 21, 2022. Sal was born on July 29, 1932 to the late Casimir and Josephine (Slaby) Jaworski Sr. in South Bend. He was a 1950 graduate of Greene Township High School where he enjoyed various activities such as basketball and dances. On October 1, 1955, he married the love of his life, Gertie (Sobczak) Jaworski at St. Hedwig Catholic Church where they were devout members and firm in their faith their entire lives. This marriage and partnership lasted 64 years; one would rarely see Gertie without Sal. Sal was an active member of Golden Cluster as well as the Holy Name Society at St. Hedwig. Sal also served as an usher at the church for more than 69 years, rarely missing a Mass. He also served the church as a money counter and helped with seasonal decorations that enhanced the various seasons of worship. Sal served his country as a Marine from 1950-1953 during the Korean War. He often recounted stories of his adventures during this tour of duty and always referred to his love of country. He was an active member of American Legion Post 357 since 1954. Sal often supported the Post by placing flags on veterans graves for Memorial Day. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing and was a member of the Crumstown Conservation Club for many years.
