FreeportSylvia R. Thoren, 98, of Freeport, died Friday, January 22, 2016, at Parkview Home.Born November 9, 1917 in Stephenson County, she was the daughter of Ernst and Freida (Siegenthaler) Schurch. She married Harold Thoren January 28, 1941 and he preceded her in death. Sylvia worked as a farmer’s wife prior to working for the Journal Standard and Economy Insurance Company.
She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ.The love of her life was family. Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia (Ulan) Price of Freeport; two grandchildren, Shane Price of Janesville, Wisconsin and Tiffany (Scott) Simanek of Long Grove, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Lainey, Ethan, and Josie Simanek; her nephew Russ Miller, whom she loved like a son, of Rock City; her sister, Gertrude Schneeberger of Brodhead, Wisconsin; her brother, Fredrick Schurch of Davis; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Nancy Thoren; and six sisters, Clara Crone, Marie Gill, Anna Horstmeier, Elsie Miller, Rose Brown and Helen Bennehoff.
