Sydney M. Doughty, a longtime resident of Edgewood, NM passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. Sydney was born on September 5,1941 to Joseph and Emily (Barryman) Morris in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James Howard Doughty and is survived by her daughter, Kara Kathleen Crotta of Albuquerque, NM and granddaughter, Morgan Leigh Crotta of Seattle, WA.

After graduating with her BS in Education and Biology from the University of New Mexico, Sydney was employed by the Albuquerque Public Schools where she shaped the lives of countless students as a beloved Home Economics teacher for 25 years.

Sydney was also a founding member of Church of the Holy Cross in Edgewood, New Mexico and served as Vestry member; Junior Warden and head of the Episcopal Church Women. She will be fondly remembered for her love of quilting and membership in NM Quilter’s Association, Over the Mountain Quilters and many other quilting groups throughout the greater Albuquerque area.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Yaw A. Adjei-Poku, Cardiologist and Dr. Karen Sopko, Cardiologist of the Heart Hospital at Lovelace Medical Center for their extraordinary compassion, care, and expertise along with the nurses and staff of Lovelace Medical Center Med-Surg and ICU Units.
