Sydney Hudson Bates, Jr. was born to the late Sydney Bates, Sr., and Christine Snider Bataes of February 12, 1948 in Decatur, AL. He departed this life on October 27, 2015 at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
He confessed his hope in Christ at a young age and united with the St. James C. P. Church where he was involved in many organizations as a youth.
Sydney was a very talented and intelligent young man. He graduated from Lakeside High School in May of 1964 after turning 16 only three months prior to graduation. He was involved in the high school band, the debate team, the Student Council and Math Club. After graduation, he attended Tuskegee Institute to further his education. After leaving Tuskegee, Sydney went to the Coast Guarad.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ernestine Bates and to this union two children were born.
Sydney was a very capable handyman. He worked for various businesses in the Decatur and surrounding areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Christopher Bates.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Sydney III, Sidnitra Christine, and Sydney Malone; two brothers, George (Mildred) Bates and Thomas (Arnette) Bates of California; two aunts, Leona S. Elliott and Hester Snider; many grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
