Suzanne J. (Susie) Schenkel , 85, Huntington, IN, died at Norwood Health & Rehabilitation on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Schenkel was born on December 8, 1926 to John E. and Susannah (Barter) Bauer in Huntington, Indiana. Her parents preceded her in death. Mrs. Schenkel married Donald Alvin Schenkel on October 8, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1984. Mrs. Schenkel was a 1944 graduate of Huntington Catholic School and a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality. Mrs. Schenkel retired from Millers Merry Manor working in the food service for 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Rita) Schenkel, of Baxter, TN and Roman Schenkel, of Huntington, Indiana; and one daughter, Susan (James) Joy, of Huntington, Indiana. There are 5 grandchildren; Jamie Justice, Kari Schenkel, T. Adam Schenkel, Angela Bradd, Amy Berg; and 2 step grandchildren; Timothy Miller, Cherish Childs. and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schenkel also has a surviving sister-in-law, Mary Bauer in Marion, Ohio. Preceding her in death is one brother; John B. Bauer and one sister, Eloise E. Giddens.
