Susie Mae Jennings, 91, of Huntsville, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, after a long life filled with love. A Strong Believer, Compassionate Mother, Loving Grandmother (“Nany”) and Fierce Friend, Susie Mae will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Sue was born on September 1, 1930, to Irene Brantley Schrimsher and William Clinton Schrimsher in Huntsville, Alabama. She grew up surrounded by her four siblings exploring Huntsville and playing on the foothills of Monte Sano Mountain. Sue attended Huntsville High School and also spent several years in Dallas, Texas and Hollywood, Florida.

In 1950, she welcomed her loving son Stephen Clinton Joiner to the world. For many years, the dynamic duo Susie and Steve took on life together, with Sue’s mother and Steve’s “Grannie” Irene always nearby to help.

In 1954, she met Virgil Howard Jennings, and after a long courtship, they wed in 1962, going on to have two children, Terri Leigh Lee and Greg Jennings.

Sue and Howard were soul mates, spending many happy years together. They particularly enjoyed traveling to Panama City Beach, Florida, Murfreesboro, Tennessee and nearby State Parks. Ultimately, Susie and Howard were just “happy as pie” to spend time in each other’s company.

Sue spent over forty years working in the hospitality and caregiving industries. Among highlights, she enjoyed working in the Huntsville Hospital cafeteria, the Russell Erskine hotel in Downtown Huntsville and as a home health companion for the elderly.

Sue was preceded to the other side by her husband Howard Jennings, son Stephen Clinton Joiner, grandson Stephen Clinton Joiner Jr., siblings Shirley Clark, Bobby Schrimsher, Clarence Schrimsher, Edward Schrimsher and her parents. She is survived by Terri Lee (daughter), Randy Lee (son-in-law) Greg Jennings (son), Linda Joiner (daughter-in-law), Jessica Carlton (granddaughter), Wendy Bennett (granddaughter), Beth Joiner (granddaughter), Ashley Blankenship (great granddaughter), Adam Buford (wife Lydia) (great grandson), Lauren Stinnett (husband Ben) (great granddaughter), Avaleigh Blankenship (great-great granddaughter), Adelyn Blankenship (great-great granddaughter), Clinton Wray (great-great grandson), Haysleigh Stinnett (great-great granddaughter), William Stinnett (great- great grandson) and Olivia Stinnett (great-great granddaughter).
