Susie Hamstra, age 84, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village.
Susie was born on October 28, 1936 in Jasper County, the daughter of John and Susie (Ettema) DeYoung. She graduated from Fair Oaks High School, Class of 1955. Susie married Charles L. Hamstra on June 28, 1957 in DeMotte. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2019. Susie was a nurse’s aide at Jasper County Hospital and drove a school bus for KV School Corp for over 40 years. She is a member of the American Reformed Church, enjoyed gardening, reading, and camping. More than anything she loved being home and being a wife.
Susie is survived by her children: Alvin (Nancy) Hamstra and Donna (Mark) Zuchowski; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and siblings: Simon “Butch” DeYoung, Gene DeYoung, Roger DeYoung and Judy VanderMolen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Brenda Hamstra, son, Michael Hamstra and 8 brothers & sisters.
