Susan Ruth Berner, beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend passed away unexpectedly at Florida Hospital on April 2, 2018. She was 67.

Devoted mother, loving sister and successful businesswoman, Susan lived to make others happy.

An exceptionally quiet person, often described as the nicest person anyone could ever meet, Susan was selfless in her desire to help others and never spoke a harsh word about anyone. And while on the outside she lived an unassuming and private life, on the inside her strength and conviction for the things she held important was a powerful force. Whether she was nurturing and mentoring her children or fighting for a cause dear to her heart, Susan was a tenacious warrior when it came to persistent action.

As a young woman, she took her principles and conviction to the steps of the capital in Washington DC. She helped form government policies, participated in finding peaceful solutions to difficult problems, collaborated on books and papers, and stridently supported those who fought the good fight.

After leaving Washington DC, Susan found herself in Vero Beach where she crafted the life she desired most; a quiet successful business that allowed her the freedom to raise Sarah and Eric with the principles she found important to her spirit. Through her example, she taught them the value of persistent action during adversity, the virtue of a generous heart, and showed them that love inspires courage – even when alone. She comforted and counseled Eric and Sarah through difficult times and was an example of selfless love all the years of her life. Never missing a sporting event, parent/teacher conference or homework assignment, Susan has been the greatest example for her children and others.

Susan was an avid lover of sports – especially tennis. So it’s no surprise that she ensured that in the competition between love and life, love was never lost. Susan is a life champion and words cannot fully express the depth in which Susan touched the lives of her family. She was truly a beautifully unique and special person; quiet in expression but with a character that spoke loudly to the hearts of her children.

Susan lived the last 3 years of her life with her daughter Sarah and her family in Orlando, where she read, relaxed, and rejoiced in the health and happiness of her children. There is no doubt that all has been accomplished – her children have been taught, her grandson has been loved and her heart has been fulfilled. She will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Eric Andersen of West Simsbury, CT and daughter, Sarah Andersen Blacksmith and husband Dennis of Orlando, FL with their children, Ryan, Amanda and Grayson. Brothers; Paul Berner and his wife, Kathy of Cocoa Beach, FL, Ken Berner and his wife Joan of La Porte, IN; Nephew, Kevin Berner and their three children, Kaylin, Kendra and Kimber of Cocoa Beach, FL; Niece Maribeth Carson and her husband Jeff and their son, Jack of Brooklin, ME and many more wonderful family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father Donald Earnest Berner, mother, Gertrude Harnden Berner, and Sarah and Eric’s father, Alfred Eugene Andersen
