Royce Avery Cook gently left her earthly life behind on the morning of Saturday, December 12th after developing complications as the result of a stoke that occurred on Thursday evening. Susan Royce Avery was born December 5, 1945 in Newnan, Georgia to the late John Welch Avery, Sr. and Sudie Fincher Avery. She would soon come to be known to family and friends as “Sissy”. Royce was an enthusiastic student in the Newnan Public Schools and was an outstanding student and athlete. She later attended West Georgia College and her degree in education would prepare her for her career in early childhood education. Royce personified the role of a loving wife and mother. She was diligent in her care for her parents in their later years. All of her nieces and nephews were beneficiaries of her compassionate nature. They were loved as if they were her own and the bond was mutual. Her kindness and giving nature attracted a great number of friends and she truly loved entertaining them. Dinner at her home would surely feature one’s favorite dish and a few extra thrown in for good measure. When she was not playing bridge or golfing, she could be found enjoying her favorite country music of jumping into the action of the Georgia Bulldogs or The Atlanta Braves. She has left a legacy of love that will forever be carried in the hearts of her family and friends. Royce is survived by her husband Rick, her daughter Jenni, her brother John Welch Avery, Jr. and his wife Carolyn. Her extended family includes her sisters-in-law Sylvia Harris, Sherry McCurry and her husband Mac. She was the devoted aunt to Leslie Avery, Whitney Ray, Holly Garland (and Tim), Melissa Hayes (and Michael), Marsha Couch, Jay Avery (and Heather), Keith Harris and all the great nieces and nephews.
