Susan Marie Rogal, 84, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at OSF St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Bloomington.
Mrs. Rogal was born on 28th December 1934, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, the elder daughter of Allyne Cushing Litchfield and Marie Dorman Litchfield, Susan Rogal attended Grosse Pointe Country Day School, eventually earning the A.A. degree from Colby Junior College, New London, New Hampshire: B.A. (Music) from the University of Michigan: and the M.M. (Piano Performance and Literature) from Michigan.
She held positions on the music faculties of the public schools in Grand Rapids, Michigan, followed by appointments to the music departments of Oregon College of Education Monmouth, OR; and Iowa State University Ames.
She also directed Presbyterian Church choirs in West Point, MS, and in Normal, IL. On 14th of August 1965, in Grosse Pointe Memorial Presbyterian Church, Susan Litchfield married Samuel J. Rogal.
Survivors include her husband: sons Geoffrey Carver Rogal (Odessa, Texas) and James Paul (Jenni) Rogal (Normal, IL): sister Sally (Patrick) McEvoy (Wheaton, IL), and five grandchildren,: Mamush, Sitota, Fekadu, Azaria and Reverie Rogal- all of Normal, IL. Susan and Samuel Rogal removed from LaSalle, IL to Normal, IL in August 2017. Following her marriage, Susan Rogal maintained private piano studios in Ames, IA; Oswego, NY; West Point, MS, and LaSalle, IL. Residing in LaSalle for more than three decades, she dedicated herself to the teaching of literally hundreds of students, impressing upon them the culture and intellectual values of appreciating music and of achieving both competence in, as well as enjoyment from, piano performance.
