Susan Pinto of Brooklyn, New York, passed away after a long period of illness. Susan was larger than life, a force of nature – she lived on her own terms.
She was a feisty mother of two children and grandmother of three, but she mothered scores of children and adults over her lifetime.
Susan was a lover of bright colors – she painted her brownstone purple and dusty blue. She dyed her hair hot pink years before it was common. Susan was an avid reader; a lover of books and words. Susan could creatively out-curse anyone. She valued free expression, creativity and boldness. A lifetime Brooklynite, she embraced the vibrancy, variety, and the outrageousness of New York City.
Susan was passionate about social justice and feminism her entire life; from her early years when she marched in the civil rights movement in the 60’s and throughout her lifetime. She listed “attending political demonstrations” under activities on her LinkedIn and was disappointed she could not protest in person in recent years.
Susan grew up in Brooklyn, attended St. Brendan’s School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing and Philosophy from Brooklyn College.
Susan was briefly married to Kenneth Schaffner and later married Charles Gant.
She is survived by her children Charles and Gabrielle, and her grandchildren Diego, Kaia and Michela, and her siblings Anthony, Kathy and Margaret.
