On July 11, 2023, our beloved sister, mother and wife joined her family in heaven and was released from her earthly burdens.
Susan Louise was the younger of twin girls born to George W. Roush and Margaret Ann (Russell) Roush on April 12, 1957, in Akron. She was a fighter early on, struggling from her birth to live.
And live she did, using her innate gifts as a caregiver to affect the lives of everyone she encountered. From the patients she cared for during her 30+ year career as a registered nurse, to her wide variety of friends, to the parade of animals residing in and outside her home (primarily Dusty, Beanie, Cecil, Zippie, Minnie Mae and Casper/Leroy), to the neighborhood kids who knew her as Mama Susan, but most especially to her small and close-knit family, Susan loved, protected and cared for them all with her fierce brand of devotion.
Susan had a unique curiosity and intensity that served her well in her nursing career, which spanned a range of specializations including med/surg and ICU at Bellevue Hospital, transitional care at Fisher-Titus, and she was an angel of a hospice nurse with Stein Hospice. She graduated as an RN from Providence School of Nursing in 1988, receiving an award for patient advocacy excellence.
She graduated from Copley-Fairlawn High School in 1975, and entered the nursing program at the University of Akron. Her education took a pregnant pause as she married Mark D. Williams in 1976 and had her first child, Victoria Lynné, in 1978. Son Tyler David followed in 1980. Susan and Mark divorced in 1984 but she remained close friends with him and his wife, Betsy.
Susan met her husband and love of her life, Herbert R. Scott, and the pair married in Tiffin on July 22, 1988. Susie and Herbie Ray established a beautiful life together that led them to her favorite place, their home together in the country that truly became “The Land of Perfect.”
If you knew Susan, you knew that she was always a package deal, as she and her twin sister, Vicki, were truly inseparable, even living only minutes from each other. Their bond will endure eternally and remains a circle that will never be broken.
Susan particularly loved telling well-worn stories that became in effect family legends, all while laughing with and loving on her family. Because her stories live on, she does as well and will reside forever in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Roush and Margaret Ann (Russell) Roush.
She is survived by her siblings: twin sister, Victoria L. (Michael) Balemian of Clyde; Robert R. (Terri) Roush of Atwater; and George C. Roush of Akron; children: Victoria L. (Brian) Dugger of Monclova Township and step grandchildren: Gabrielle and Nicholas Dugger of Woodville and Perrysburg; Tyler D. (Sarah) Williams of Powell; and special son, Will (Autumn) Selvey of Flat Rock; beloved husband, Herbert R. Scott of Bellevue; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
