Susan (Moores) Hinshaw, 64 died peacefully in Anchorage on February 19, 2021. Susan lost her final battle against liver cancer and early onset of Alzheimer’s after a valiant fight. Susan was born September 17, 1956, in Lowell, Massachusetts to John Charles “Alligator Jack” Moores and Patricia Sue (Orr) Moores. Susan was an East High School graduate and attended Anchorage Community College. She worked for Alaska Peninsula Corporation, the State of Alaska Department of Transportation, Ted Stevens Airport and retired from the State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities.
Susan was an avid baker always taking in treats to her co-workers. Susan was a seamstress who created wedding dresses, blankets and quilts, bean bags, Halloween costumes, curtains, and clothes for her friends and family. She loved the outdoors, rollerblading, biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing with friends and her long-time special friend Matt. Susan’s favorite holiday was Valentine’s Day and she loved hearts. Susan also loved the color cobalt blue and she always wore blue.
Susan is survived by her sons, David Randall Hinshaw and Steven Michael Hinshaw of Anchorage; seven grandchildren, Pepper, Fletcher, Sloan, Lemont, Christian, Tiana, Messiah, mother, Pat Moores, brother Kenny Moores, sister Cheryl Paulson, extended family in Massachusetts, Colorado, Georgia and many special friends in Anchorage including her partner and special friend Matt Desalernos. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Alligator Jack, and sister Linda Farmer.
