Susan Olson, 80, of Jacksonville, IL passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL. She was born in Cherokee, IA on November 27, 1941, to Wilbur and Velma (Mueller) Mangold.

She grew up on a farm north of Alta, IA and graduated from Alta High School in 1959. While in school, Susan was a member of the drill team, was part of many theater productions, and participated in marching band as drum major.

She and her sister, Jean, appeared on Amateur Hour television program out of Fort Dodge, IA performing tap and ballet routines. After graduation, she worked in the treasurer’s office at the Buena Vista County Courthouse in Storm Lake, IA.

In 1964 she married Jack Wagahoff of Raymond. She spent the next 30 years as a stay at home mom in Jacksonville, raising their five girls; Jacklyn Still of Jacksonville, Debbie (Bruce) Jokisch of Virginia, Julie (Bill) Malach of O’Fallon, MO, Dana (Mike) Prather of Jacksonville, and Amy (David) Lovelady of Columbia, MO.

Susan kept very busy volunteering at her daughters’ school and was very active in her church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the senior choir at church and the director of the junior choir. She kept an immaculate house and sewed clothes for her daughters and their dolls.

Susan later worked as the office manager at Jack’s Auto Clinic in Jacksonville and then as a bank teller. Her marriage to Jack ended in 1993. In 2002, she married Vernon Olson of Spencer, IA. They lived ten years on their farm in northwest Iowa where they enjoyed the countryside and watching their horses graze. They then moved back to Jacksonville to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Susan was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved working on jigsaw puzzles and reading a good book.  She adored her family and felt very blessed to have them all in her life.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Wilbur and Velma Mangold and her brother, William Mangold. She is survived by her husband Vernon Olson; her sister, Jean (Robert) Kent of Port Ludlow, WA; her five daughters; her step-children Dan Olson of Sycamore, and  Donna Olson of Temecula, CA; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by them all.
