Sulema Ramirez Cantu, 93, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister, began her eternal life on February 1, 2016, after a brief illness. She was born in San Benito on October 6, 1922, to Domingo Ramirez and Maria Davila. A wonderful cook, Sulema enjoyed catering for her friends and family and was often called upon to cook for special events. Sulema was a spiritual person who brought ease and comfort to those who sought her guidance.
Sulema is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Juan Cantu; brother, Luis Banuelos; daughters, Norma Loida Cantu, who died in childhood, and Norma Franco, who died in 2008; and her half siblings, Luis (Elma) Ramirez and Baltazar Ramirez.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Juan Roberto “Bobby” Cantu, Luis A. Cantu, and Enrique H. Cantu all of Harlingen; 2 granddaughters, Maribel C. Rodriguez and Marisol C. Perez (Ruben); 3 grandsons, Luis “Louie” Cantu, Jr., Maximo A. “Tony” Franco, and Enrique H. Cantu, Jr.; 2 great-granddaughters, Emma Grace Cantu and Bianca Rodriguez; 3 great-grandsons, Nathan Ray Perez, Noah Rodriguez, and Kaleb Franco; a sister, Maria Elena Martinez (Rey+) of San Antonio; her half siblings, Juan Ramirez (Gloria), Jose Tomas Ramirez (Frances), Domingo Ramirez (Paula), and Santos R. Reyes (Alberto).
