Susie Mae Brown was born on August 18, 1922, to Ethel and Monroe J. Brown, Sr. in Bastrop, Louisiana. She was blessed with two siblings, sister, Donna Mae; Bradley and brother, Monroe James Brown, II. “Sue”, as she was so affectionately called, studied education and received her bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, and then her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While an undergrad, Sue pledged in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, “AKA.” Later, she became an active lifetime member of the sorority. As a young adult, Sue married Bristol Creech, together they had two daughters, Rhonda and Vickie. Later, this marriage was dissolved. Sue loved her children and nurtured them through the good and the difficult times. After a while, Sue met and married Utenart Pippins, and in 1963, the family moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Denver, Colorado. The family had many happy and memorable moments together. Utenart Pippins passed away leaving his wife and family behind. In 1986, Sue married John F. Guess. They were the ideal couple and loved one another very much. Sue converted her religion to Episcopalian.
