Sue Sterling was born on January 22, 1926 in Trent, TX to Wesley and Edythe Harris. Billie Sue Harris (as she was then known) grew up in Abernathy, TX where she graduated from Abernathy High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, Bille Sue married Dean Sterling, then a pilot cadet in the Army Air Corps, on March 17, 1944. Dean and Sue moved around a lot while Dean completed his training. She always loved to “Jitterbug.” While Dean was stationed in the Pacific for the duration of World War II, Sue lived with or near her parents in Lubbock and Abernathy, TX. When Dean returned from the war, Sue and Dean lived in Lubbock, TX and later in Abernathy, TX where Dean completed his education and worked multiple jobs.

Sue and Dean adopted a daughter, Karen Sue in 1950 and adopted a second daughter, Micki Lyn in 1953. The family was living on Sue’s family farm in Abernathy when they had a son, Wynn Harris in 1958. After a brief move to Amarillo, TX, the Sterlings moved to Post, TX in 1964. Sue was active in raising her children, attending social clubs, and supporting the Methodist Church. She began working as a school secretary in 1966 and continued to do so on and off until she retired.

The family moved to Macon, GA in 1970 and then to Newnan, GA in 1972, where Sue finished raising her family and working in the school system. After Dean passed away in 1999, Sue moved to Huntsville, AL where she resided until her death. Sue is survived by two daughters, Karen Deaton of Macon, GA and Micki Weintraub of Boynton Beach, FL; one son, Wynn Sterling of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
