Stewart J. Thompson, 85, of Ottawa, died on Saturday night, April 8, 2017 at Pleasant View. Stewart was born on July 9, 1931 in Kankakee, to Stewart R. and Fraces (La Bounty) Thompson. He was a graduate of L-P High School class of 1952. Stewart was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War.
He retired on January 26, 1998 after working 36 years for the City of Ottawa. Stewart was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 33, Loyal Order of the Moose #960, and sang with the Ottawa Barber-Shoppers for many years. Stewart is survived by 3 daughters, Jean (David) Hellyer, of Bennett, IA, April Duhme, of Maquoketa, IA and Joann Beers-Jake, of Iowa, 4 grandchildren, Amber, Tiffany, Matthew, and Sara, 3 great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Andrew, and Kinsley, and a sister-in-law Norma Ingram. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard.
