Steven Louis Day Kaufman, 65, of Galesburg, died on Saturday, August 13, 2016, 10:20 pm, at his home in Galesburg. Steven was born in Sterling, on June 28, 1951. He was the son of Elmer and Annette (Bott) Kaufman. He married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Day in Galesburg, on March 7, 1982. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2014. Steven is survived by a son, Shawn Kaufman of Springfield; two sisters, Connie Kaiser of Freeport, and Shirley Headman of Brooklyn Park, MN; and three grandchildren, Addyson Kraus, and Finnigan and Sullivan Dickson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, and sisters, Sharon Kaufman and Carol Port.
Steven received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Western Illinois University. He was employed as a social worker at the Carver Community Action Agency, Galesburg, until his retirement in 2012. Steven was very active in politics and was a member of Knox County Democrats. He was very interested in astrology and loved to write up astrological charts for people. His biggest joy in life was to be able to help someone, no matter how much they were in need. Steven had a personality that was bigger than life, and never met a stranger. His heart and big personality will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
