Those left to honor Steve’s memory are his parents, Terry and Debbie Karsten of Newton; brother, David M. Karsten of Ames, Iowa; his maternal grandfather, Dale Vanderpool of Lander, Wyoming; and paternal grandmothers, Rubee Karsten of Mesa, Arizona and Grace Kolling of Portland, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jay Karsten, and maternal grandmother, Ruth Simbro.
Steve graduated from Newton High School in 1991 and from DMACC in 1993. He also attended the University of Northern Iowa and Southwest Missouri State.
He had been a drive-up teller at F&M Bank in Newton and prior to that had worked at East Hy-Vee.
