Steven Harry Schroeder, 68, passed away in his home on Friday October 24, 2014, from complications of cancer.

Steve was born on September 8, 1946 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He was the only child of Harry and Geneva (Haney) Schroeder.  His family moved to the Caldwell area in 1948  when his parents joined his maternal grandparents in a small farming operation.  Steve attended Caldwell schools and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1964.  He worked in a small grocery store and put himself through the College of Idaho graduating in 1968 with his teaching degree in Chemistry.  He began his first year of teaching in 1968 at a high school in Las Vegas.  In 1969 he returned to Boise and began his teaching career at Capital High School.  He taught Physical Science for a few years and then was asked to take over the Physics position.  He taught mostly regular Physics and AP Physics for the majority of his 41 years at Capital with some Chemistry and AP Chemistry classes when needed along the way.  He retired from the Boise School District at the end of the school year in August 2010.  Earlier that summer, he had the good fortune to be asked by Boise State to teach Physics Lab classes on a part time basis.  He absolutely loved this job because we, as his family, know that he really wasn’t quite ready to give up teaching completely.  In late Fall of that same year, he heard about the online teaching of University of Phoenix.  This intrigued him so he went through training and enjoyed teaching science classes in geology, astronomy and environmental science intermittently over the next few years.

Steve married Vicki Bittinger on September 30, 1972.  They have lived in Boise their entire married life.

Steve was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He loved going on family vacations to the Oregon Coast, playing games on a family game night, light houses, eagles and his N gauge train layout which has been a work in progress for a number of years.  He also loved Capital High football and basketball and Boise State football.  He has been the Capital High varsity basketball statistician for 35 plus years and the SIC statistician for many years.

Steve is survived by his wife Vicki and their three daughters, Leah (Shawn) Bower, Sara (Reuban) Gilliam and Laura (Brian) Krebs and four grandchildren, Aubrey and Brendan Bower, Draca Gilliam and Keaten Krebs.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
