Steven Foster Ross, 71, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at his home with his wife and dog at his side as he soared “over the rainbow” to his eternal life as a child of God. Steve was born December 8, 1935 in Kokomo, IN to the late Luther J. and Pauline O. Ross.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Nancy Ray Ross (formerly of Jacksonville); daughters, Jennifer Presley and Shannon Lash, both of Jacksonville; grandchildren, twins Jason and Zachary Presley, Kelsey Presley, Jesse Lash, and Noah Lash, all of Jacksonville; two nieces; a great niece; and two great nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ross.
Steve spent the majority of his career in sales with Lincoln National serving a diverse client base including hospitals, school systems, foundations, and community service organizations in Indiana. He made friends with everyone he met because he loved to laugh, have fun and genuinely believed people were good. His life was filled with adventures such as climbing Mount Fuji and sailing the “Paula” when he lived in Japan; walking on the Great Wall of China and telling Chinese interpreters about the Pacers’ insignia on his jacket and hat; driving his MG in the hills around Bloomington while attending Indiana University; piloting his plane; and even doing some comedy spots while working in the Poconos. He built his woodworking workshop and created furniture, and was known as a great cook for his terrific egg rolls.
A strong supporter of community organizations, Steve held Pacer and Colt season tickets for over 20 years, was a regular at the RCA Tennis Championships, and attended NCAA Final Four games. He was a member and patron of the Indianapolis Symphony, the Indianapolis Zoo, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, and Historic Landmarks Foundation. A member of Second Presbyterian Church, he was a past Deacon and head of the ushering program for many years. He was a US Army veteran and had spent time as a DJ and comic in Reykjavik, Iceland.
