He graduated from Thomas More High School in 1976 and attended Milwaukee Area Technical College. Mr. Gavin was employed with Howard Brothers Hardware in Duluth, GA and was a member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, GA. He was a Packers fan.
