Stephen Lawrence Wilson, age 64, of St. Johns, died at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 following a suspected heart attack.Steve was born on September 28, 1959 in Sheridan, Michigan, the fourth of five children born to Arthur and Nancy (Randall) Wilson. He attended Ionia and St. Johns High Schools and enlisted with the United States Army in 1978. For fifteen years, he proudly served during Desert Storm and in several roles through the years, including mechanic, special forces, artillery and surveying, and spent time in Korea and Germany. He worked at Rudys Drywall with his friend for many years, and later at Walmart for eighteen years, retiring in 2021.Shortly after returning home, in February of 1996, Steve met Ann Dietrich; they were engaged in April and married on July 5, 1996. They celebrated twenty eight years together and for many anniversaries, they gathered on Chippewa Lake with family and friends. He was known for his love for sports, always keeping close tabs on the Lions, Tigers, and Wolverines. He was also an avid bowler, participating in several leagues in Ovid with his mom and family.Steve had a knack for storytelling and could regale his audience with wild tales, all told with a straight face that only added to the charm. He loved fishing, one of the few things he would plan meticulously. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, like taking a car ride and counting deer. His devious sense of humor and love for plotting and joking around were some of his most endearing qualities. Despite his gruff exterior, Steve had a heart full of love for his family, always ready to share a wild story or plot a good-natured prank. His grandsons, Wyatt and Hunter, held a special place in his heart, and he took immense joy in their shared interests, whether it was discussing Bigfoot with Wyatt or football with Hunter. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Wilson; stepdaughter, Denise (Kyle) Fullhart; grandsons, Hunter Wylie and Wyatt Fullhart; his siblings, Deanna (Gary) Salters, James Wilson, Brad (Melissa) Wilson and Melanie (John) Dinaso; in-laws, Diana (Gary) Munsen, Susie (the late Steve) Leonard, Duane (Nancy) Dietrich, the late Marie Dietrich; his best friend, Mark Rudy, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
