SOMERSET, STERLING MONROE JR., born April 1, 1930. A retired local businessman he attended Woodlawn High School, Graduated High School from Riverside Military Academy in Georgia, class of 1948; Served in the United States Navy for 8 years. During the Korean conflict, he served on the USS Henderson. He was awarded two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Sterling M. Somerset and Joyce Flanagan Somerset, his first wife, Barbara Wilcox Somerset, (children Jean S. Shaffer, Joy S. Redmon, and Sterling Monroe Somerset, III) and by his second wife, Shirley Waters Somerset, (children Lee Brook Somerset and Shawn Flanagan Somerset). He was survived by a brother, John S. Somerset, all of his children, eleven grandchildren and two great grand children.
