Born on Easter Sunday March 24, 1940 in Gary, Indiana, Stephen spent his very early years in Indiana before moving to Idaho. He lived in Pocatello while his mother worked for the railroad. They then moved to Boise where Steve graduated from Boise High. He attended higher education at Idaho State University where he lettered in swimming and was active in ROTC. After attaining his Bachelors degree he joined the army as a 2nd Lt.
