Stephen Polak, 71, of Bethlehem, died on Fri, May 11 in Lehigh Valley Hospice. He was the husband of Stephanie (Kaeppel) Polak. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Louis and Amelia (Matus) Polak. Steve worked in the construction industry and as a machinist at the Bethlehem Steel for a number of years until retiring.
Steve served with the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, retiring in 1996 as a Technical Sargeant.
He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church and the American Legion. His favorite pastimes included cooking for family and friends, home remodeling, gardening and traveling.
Surviving: wife; daughter, Tonya and husband, Eric Safstrom of Great Falls, MT; sisters, Cecilia Laslo, husband Charles; Helen Yuhasz, husband Ed; Pauline Magnirini; Alice Kozar all of Hellertown; Ann Mesko of Bethlehem; Josephine Berry of Easton; Wilma Walkawicz, husband Matt of Dudley; Mary Barkis, husband Ed of Atlanta, GA; Rosemarie Okonski, husband John of Schenectady, NY; brothers, Thomas, wife Nancy of Hellertown; John, wife Louise of Somerset, NJ. Predeceased by siblings, Louis, Joseph, Elizabeth Mingora.
