Stephen D. Pippenger, 62, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born, July 9, 1948 in Frankfort, IN, he was the son of William A. and Barbara R. (Pearcy) Pippenger.

Stephen was in the U.S. Air Force and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Vietnam Security Police Association, and the American Legion Post #18. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. He was the medical transportation coordinator for Bloomington area veterans. Stephen worked as a railroad detective for L&N/Seaboard Systems. He was a correctional officer with the Indiana correctional system. He later retired from General Electric in Bloomington.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Bertha “Bert” (McWhorter) Pippenger, one son, Shane (Evelynn) Pippenger of Downey, ID, one daughter, Misty (Alan) Pemberton of Bloomington, five grandchildren, Brandon Vaughan, Alexandra Pippenger, Kyle Pippenger, Dianne and Danielle Pemberton, one brother, Kevin Pippenger of Frankfort, one sister, Debra Sparks of North Carolina, eight nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Todd Pippenger, Phillip Alan Pippenger, one grandson, Stephen Michael Pippenger, his parents, his grandparents and a brother-in-law,Terry Rowland.
