Stephen (Steve) Paul Coates, 65, passed away November 11, 2021, after his battle with cancer, in Paul, Idaho with his family surrounding him.

Stephen Paul Coates was born April 29, 1956, in Boise, Idaho to Dolly McCurry. He was second to the oldest of four brothers. Stephen was adopted by his Grandparents later in childhood, and raised in Challis, Idaho creating a brotherly bond with his five uncles. Stephen lived in various places in Idaho, and Wyoming before planting roots in American Falls, Idaho, where he raised five children with his then wife Brenda Coates. In 1997, he began work as a correctional officer for Pocatello Women’s Correctional Facility and retired in 2014 as Sergeant.

Steve loved his family fiercely. They were the center of his world. His main purpose in life was to take care and love every single one of his family members. He was adventurous and loved nature. He was particularly fond of family road trips to the Oregon Coast, and family reunions held annually around Idaho. He loved fishing and camping with his family. He enjoyed music, computer games, and riding his motorcycle with his brother-in-law. He is going to be so incredibly missed.

Stephen is survived by his five children, Daughter Stacy Long, (Doug Williams). Son Stephen Coates Jr. Son Dallen Coates. Daughter Autumn Roseberg, (Andy Roseberg). Daughter Alyssa Madrid, (Angel Madrid). Six Granddaughters and four grandsons. His two brothers, Ace and Zan McCurry. Brother and Sister-in-Law: Dennis and Laurie Anderson. Ex-Wife, Brenda Coates. Three Nieces and Three Nephews. Several great nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

Stephen is preceded in death by, Mother Dolly McCurry. Daughter Brittney Coates. Brother Matt McCurry. Brother Robert Combe. Grandmother Margaret Speer. Grandfather Dallen Coates. Great Nephews Damon Payne and Timothy Radabaugh. Mother-in-law Donna Uscola.

The family would like to thank Horizon Home Health and Hospice for their help and support. His Nurses Stacy, Jessica, and Marilynn were exceptional not only to Steve but to his entire family. Pastor Dan for supporting the family the night of passing and for giving a blessing. Laurie and Dennis Anderson for being his place of love and comfort during his most difficult times and remainder of his days.
