SALEM – Stephen M. Wilkins, 84, died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018. He was born May 26, 1933, in Springfield, Ohio, to Harold and Mary Louise (Minter) Wilkins.
His family later moved to North Canton where he attended elementary school and was a member of the North Canton High School Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era and attended Kent State University where he met his future wife. In 1958 he married Dolores Buta of Salem, Ohio. They were married for 53 years until her passing in 2011. Together they owned and operated The Pepper Tree Women’s Apparel Shoppe in North Canton for 15 years.
Stephen was employed for over 25 years as the safety manager at Butech/Bliss Steel Company in Salem. He was an active member of the Society of Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., and the North Canton Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores; his parents; and his youngest sister, Susan.
He is survived by his companion of seven years, Helene Zlotnick of Boardman; his three daughters, Victoria (Roland Fabia) of Fairfax, Va., Susan Wilkins (Bill Aloof) of Redmond, Wash., and Sarah (Eric Fischer) of Hopewell, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and his sister, Sally Wood of Mentor, Ohio.
