Stephen Louis Marcinko, 95, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on January 22, 2017, surrounded by his family. Stephen was born one of seven children in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on December 9, 1921 to parents who had emigrated from Hungary through Ellis Island in the 1910s. At the age of 15, he was sent to a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the Western U.S. to plant trees and shrubs to assist his family financially after the untimely death of his father. In June 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps and served for four years during World War II. He was assigned to Ordnance School, became a Technician Fifth Grade, and taught ammunition use and safety at the Panama Canal Zone. In 1945, he met the beautiful Lillian Rivello and was in love at first glance. They married on March 13, 1946, and welcomed their first child, Lucille (“Goldie”), a year later. Their son, Stephen, was born in 1951. He worked at the Raritan Arsenal as a supervisor and was responsible for the oversight of railroad cargo throughout the United States. He retired from that position in 1970. He then worked security for Pathmark until 1974 when he retired for good. Following their family in 1975, Stephen and Lillian moved south and purchased a home in Gulf Breeze. He and Lillian loved the beach and long Sunday drives down Hwy. 98, often taking their grandchildren with them. His greatest loss occurred on December 14, 1984, when he lost his wife to cancer. Stephen filled his time by walking Cordova Mall, enjoying a donut, cup of coffee, and conversation at Krispy Kreme or Waffle House, and by going to the movies.
