Stephen Lanier Vickery, age 66, passed away on Aug. 24th, 2018 with his family at his bedside after courageously fighting his battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Merci A. Vanasse-Vickery of Carver. Born in Teaneck, N.J., on March 7, 1952, Steve was the beloved son of the late Garnett Lanier and Jane Frances (Griffith) Vickery. He was educated in New Jersey, a graduate of Bogota High School as well as in Boston, graduated from Graham Jr. College where he received his associates degree in Journalism/Communications. He then entered the U.S. Navy in 1976, where he proudly served his country at the Pentagon and served as a Navy disc jockey in Guantanamo Bay in was honorably discharged on January 20, 1982. Steve had worked at CBS Network and then as a Toll Supervisor for the N.J. Turnpike Authority. Stephen had several hobbies throughout the years, but NASCAR was one of his favorites. He also enjoyed the New York Yankees, music and working on crossword puzzles. He loved journalism as well as attending his AA meetings. He enjoyed traveling in the motor home, especially to Georgia to visit family. Besides leaving his devoted wife Merci, he also leaves his pup, Cassidy who comforted him while he was home on the couch. Steve was the brother-in-law of Katie Vanasse of Carver, and uncle to her children Lindsay (Smook), Emily (Roommate), Mac (Tex), and was predeceased by his niece Bea. He leaves his brother-in-law Jim Vanasse and his outlaw partner Marion of Great Barrington, MA, and their children Asa and Avery. He was uncle of Matt Vanasse and his wife Jodi and their children Sydney, Alex and Ella; his nephew Jack Vanasse and his children Gracie and Sophia, his niece Maura Fernandez and her husband Sal and their children Ava and Joaquin, as well as his grand-nieces Nicole, Michelle, and Alyssa Huckle. He also leaves his aunt Rose Williams of Waynesboro, GA. He was predeceased by his aunt Phyl Karch from Westwood, NJ, his cousin Judy Kent of Statesboro GA and his cousin Bev Karch of Westwood NJ. He also leaves behind his childhood friend Penny Schumacher of Bogota, NJ. He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Vickery and leaves a daughter Kali Vickery of Brementon, WA. Stephen was a devoted friend of Bill W.
