Stephen John Bassett passed on to another adventure July 8, 2020 at home in Franklin, IN.  Born September 5, 1950 in Saginaw, MI, the son of Donald Bassett and Joan (Polson) Bassett of Saginaw, (both deceased).

He is survived by his loving wife, Christine, daughters Leah Van Deman; husband Joseph and grandchildren Elana and Anya of Whiteland, IN; and Sarah Bassett-Pilarski; husband Nicholas, of Evanston, IL;  Brothers Peter Charles Bassett of Three Rivers, MI and David Bassett (deceased).

Steve graduated with honors from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Afterwards, he led a successful commercial photography career in Detroit, MI working with automakers and manufacturers. Eventually settling in Traverse City, MI, he started an emerging microfilm business. Later, he established an industrial advertising company in partnership with his wife, Christine, which served local and global clients. A talented photographer, his images captured light and form in unique ways, creating beauty out of the mundane.

Steve loved exploring Michigan’s waters and forests, always curious about the world around him. He was an Eagle Scout, Master Gardener, avid boater, history buff, and dog-lover. Always ready to listen and quick to make friends, he is remembered as a kind, loving, loyal, and optimistic person who cared deeply about others. Steve’s exuberance, sense of humor, and ‘twinkle in his eye’ will be greatly missed.
